hyperlink gets me a the grey excel screen

I added some hyperlinks in an excel book that link to some word docs. They
were working fine. Now when I click them they open the related doc but now
they close the excel workbook automatically and I get the grey excel screen.
Any one know why or how to fix?

try 'Tools - Options - General' and uncheck 'Ignore other applications'
