Hyperlink failure

I am using ppt 2003 service pack 1, and am finding that hyperlinks which I
put into the slides do not activate when I view the slide show.
I get an alert which says "Cannot open the specified file", even though I
know the file pathways to be correct. At first this seemed to apply to links
involving programs other than ppt, such as Word or PDF, however I find now
that the links won't open other ppt presentations either.
There seem to be a lot of problems mentioned on this site about ppt link
problems, so I'm wondering whether or not there is a fundsmental error in the
ppt program, or whether I should persevere to resolve the issue.
Any suggestions gratfully recieved.

Generally links to other files work so long as you haven't moved the PPT or
linked files to another folder or system.

There can be problems if there are LOTS of links in the PPT, though.

Also, if you have a Hyperlink Base set in Document Properties, it can make links
misbehave. I'd check that first. If no help, let us know roughly how many
links there are in the presentation.
