http linking workaround

Is anyone aware of a workaround for the case where an Excel file is on an
HTTP server? I'd like to link to the file with "Get External Data", but
apparently that is impossible. I'm sure someone must have confronted this
problem and devised a solution.

Your help would be deeply appreciated.
