html file names convert to upper case from lower when copied to another drive

I recently copied my web site's files to another hard
drive (an external USB hard drive) and all of the lower
case characters were converted to upper case. Problem is,
when I uploaded these files to my web site after maing
some changes and adding new pages, the links on these
pages, which were of course still lower case, did not
work. I had to re-name over 500 pages and almost as many
image files to lower case again! I recently had to do
copy the files again and the same thing happened. This is
a pain, and short of using all upper case letters (and
having to convert thousands of links on all my pages to
upper case) what can be done to prevent this problem?

This often happens when copying from one filing system to another, e.g. from
FAT32 to FAT (though never happens when copying to a floppy disc). I use a
9.4 naming system (filename at least 9 characters OR extension at least 4
characters), which seems to preserve case most (but not all) of the time,
(though now all my drives are formatted as NTFS).
To speed up the renaming, you can download the casechanger addin from
www.jimcoaddins.com

besides what ronx said you may also have better luck by "publishing" to the
external disk. when you said copying I assume you did it with windows
explorer.
