I'm must be overlooking something glaringly obvious, but I have an XP Pro/SP1a PC that just does not recognise HTA files as HTML applications.

It has IE6, J2RE and the same as my other PC but it just refuses to recognise the files type.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Many thanks,

Ok, found it. If anyone's interested (or indeed, having the same problem) it was due to MSHTA.EXE not being installed with IE for some reason.

To fix this problem - extract the exe from IE_<os>_1 cab file to your system32 directory then run mshta.exe /register to allow it to register hta files as HTML apps.
