hpcmpmgr.exe program not responding

my computer runs the WindowsXP home edition. when i log off i receive the
popup error of End Program-hpcmpmgr not responding. End Now.
I always wait for it to finish then it logs off the computer. This started
occurring about 6 months or more ago. I don't know what has happened. Need
help in getting this back to normal.
