HP StorageWorks DLT1 1280 Superloader

Hi,

I am hoping someone can give me some help because if they dont I am
likely to pull out ALL of my hair.

I have a HP StorageWorks DLT1 1280 Superloader, this equipment was
purchased by my predecessor at my company and I cannot find much of any
documentation on how to get it working. My current configuration is as
follows:

ProLiant DL380 G2
Pentium 3 1.4Ghz
256MB RAM
Windows 2000 SP4

My SCSI card shows up in Windows as:

SCSI: Adaptec 3960D Ultra160/m PCI SCSI
Driver: Microsoft
Date: 6/19/2003
Version: 5.0.2183.1

The HP StorageWorks DLT1 1280 Superloader shows up in Windows as:

Device: Compaq DLT1 40/80 GB Autoloader Drive
Driver: Compaq Computer Corporation
Date: 1/10/2002
Version: 1.4.0.0

The problem I am having is that although the drive is being picked up
by the operating system, the picker/autoloader is not showing up at
all, and obviously Windows doesnt have any idea that there are 8 tapes
stored in the device.

Am I using an incorrect driver? I have tried using Veritas Backup Exec,
both version 8.6 and 10.1, and they both show the device as a
standalone drive.

How can I make this device show up on the system as the tape library. I
have googled desperately trying to find a manual, but the closest I can
find is how to get the device configured to work using the LCD or web
interface, I cannot find anything regarding getting it working with
Windows 2000.

I have also tried connecting the device to a Windows 2003 server, but
it was connected through a RAID SCSI controller and I read that using
RAID SCSI controllers are not a good idea with this device, so I am
trying this other 2000 server.

I have tried using various Compaq and HP tools to detect the device. I
have used the Compaq Tape Storage Management Console and the HP
StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools. Both detect the standalone drive,
but not the autoloader. The filenames of the install programs are as
follows:

hp_ltt40sr2_win.exe
TSMC_WIN_233.zip

I also tried using the following file to update the drivers, and I
believe that this is where I got the driver I am currently using. THere
are multiple versions of this file on the net, and I used one that is
dated 2005 and is 1,146MB.

hptapedrvrs.exe

Please help, this issue is causing me a headache. Plus my predecessor
also had no luck getting this device working, so there is a pride issue
at stake here too.

TIA

Any reason why you didn't post any info *at all* about the SCSI controller's Posting stage?
Or about SCSI Bios Utility settings.

Hmm, perhaps I dont know what a "Posting stage" really is. Also, I gave
as much info as I thought was important. I will investigate those vague
references to items and try post them. I am assuming that you want
every minute detail of the SCSI Bios utility settings, or are you
interested in a particular setting.

Thanks!
