HP PSC 1350 network problems

I just connected my PSC 1350 to my desktop running Win98. No problem. On
the laptop, using the add printer wizard I can locate the printer but
cannot find drivers on the installation cd, the other pc or anywhere. If I
try to install the drivers with the installation cd, I cannot get past the
point where I'm told to plug the printer in. Is there a work around or an
alternative driver I could use which would allow me to use this as a network
printer?

Thanks,

Sue

I have a similar problem with an OfficeJet 5510 All-in-one. HP's answer (I
contacted tech support) is that some of their machines DO NOT SUPPORT
network printing. I suspect these are the LIDIL printers; does the 1350
use LIDIL?

In practice, you can print across the network if the client and server use
the same drivers, so Win98-to-Win98 works, and Win2000-to-WinXP probably
works, but WinXP-to-Win98 fails, as does Linux-to-Windows.

This is very bad. I have asked on this group about a solution, but not
found one. Maybe somebody can come up with a pretend-driver that lets the
remote printer think it's something else, and then translates it.
