HP PhotoSmart 8150 hangs XP SP2 system boot -- any ideas?

This is a clean system with only XP SP2, virus-free and spyware-free.
With a new PhotoSmart 8150 connected (USB), the system won't boot past
the BIOS screen. Doesn't matter if the printer's powered up or powered
down, the system still hangs. Unplug the printer's USB cable and the
system boots fine. Printer came with a V6.0 CD which is what's currently
offered on HP's web site so I know I'm okay there.

Also, when I plug the printer in after the system's booted, XP wants to
reinstall the printer driver(s) even though the printer's already
installed using the supplied (6.0) CD.

Any ideas?

TIA,
QH

Problem fixed. Went into the BIOS settings and disabled USB device
legacy support (AMI 3.31a). HP Support pointed me in the right direction.
