hp pavillion desktops available WITHOUT Vista?

A

aaronep

I recently purchased a new HP Pavillion Desktop computer that came
installed with Vista.
I asked HP Tech Support if I could format the hard drive and install
Windows XP.

I was told it would not work. Apparently either the bios or the other
hardware of the computer is not
compatible with XP.

Does anyone know if there are any remaining HP Computers with XP, OR
if HP might be coming out with models that would be compatible with
both operating systems?

It would be a shame if Msft is forcing the industry to market a
product containing an operating system that is so incompatible with
existing hardware & software.

Hi Aaron,

That sounds more like HP's fault, not MS. If they choose to use a BIOS or
hardware that cannot or will not run XP, that is something MS has no control
over.

You are the second person to ask this question. Mea Culpa. I should have included this with my original post.
It is Pavillion HP Desktop a1730n. Came with Vista installed.

I had previously purchased the HP Pavillion m7560n that did come with
XP and I am extremely happy with it.

Well, I don't know what to suggest for an XP machine (I build my own) but
since only Vista drivers are available for the a1730n machine, the techie
was right. It's Vista-only. I was hoping he was wrong.

I don't know about HP, but I heard that Dell is now offerring XP as an
option on most of their PCs.

Alternatively, find a small PC store in your town, not part of a major
chain, and they will probably be able to build a PC with any reasonable
combination of options and install any modern operating system, or even
multiple operating systems.

I installed a 2nd sata drive on my 1730a, and installed xp pro, as i
found Vista to be sloooowww on this machine. Just knock out the tape
drive thing, and install there, your gonna need a sata to ide power
adapter to power the sata drive. At boot you can select which drive to
boot to. Vista or XP no problems with any hardware compatability.
Throw in another rom, and upgrade the video card and this is a nice
box.
