Hi,
I went from ME to XP on a Dell Dimension 8100 around Christmastime. Since
then I have been unable to print to my HP Deskjet 952C. I attempted many
times to reinstall drivers with no success. I've verifed that the printer and
the parallel cable work fine. However, I can't get the computer to recognize
the presence of it in LPT1.
The other day I found a link somewhere which told what to do in this very
situation, but I have been unable to find it again here, on the HP site, or
on the Dell site. I tried the suggestion, and for the first time, it seemed
to notice the pritner on LPT1. Excitedly, without first trying to print a
page, I restarted the computer as it advised, hoping that it finally worked.
However, once it booted up, it was once again unrecognized.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

I have experienced a similar problem (deskjet 930c). What worked for me was
to go into the Registry and search for 'deskjet' and 'Hewlett Packard' and
delete every reference found. Now reload the drivers and install the
printer, should be OK.

Simply removing the printer by the Wizard does not remove the drivers and
removing drivers using the option included with the HP driver package does
not remove all traces of the printer in the Registry.

Before doing as I suggest please ensure you have a 'backup' of the Registry
just in case you make an mistake.

Just curious why you are using the parallel port LPT1 instead of the
'preferred' USB port.

You must completely remove all traces of the driver before re-installing. Do you have
the XP driver that is available on the HP web site? The newest one listed is 2001.

Thanks for the help. Actually, even after all this, still didn't work, but in
a differnet way. So then I tried Edward's suggestions. Still not entirely
successful. So then i broke down and went USB as Michael suggests, then
re-ran your steps. Now it seems to finally work.

Thanks again,
Jim
