Hp cd writer

I recently installed updates to my computer and My Sony CRX215E5 cd-rw turned into a plain CD-rom. I finally got that fixed , but now my drive will not recognize anything but factory recorded cd's. I can't even play the cd's that I recorded much less burn anything. Please help . I have been workin on this for 2 days
