HP 6P printing problem in WinXP

Hello,
I have HP 6P LaserJet printer on Windows XP. Suddenly it started to print
garbage. I thought that it is memory so I added 32M. Same problem. If I try
to print self diagnostic it prints OK. As soon as I spool any documents it
prints garbage characters on left top corner of the page. Thank in advance
for any help or suggestions.
Thanks, Bob

Probably a communication problem -- the print files are being garbled.
Try a new printer cable, check the connections. Try connecting to
another PC if you can.
Look at the hardware settings for your parallel port (I assume that's
what you're using).

In the last part of Alan's message he suggests that you change the
printer port settings. This is done through the systems bios setting
menue, select integrated perpherals and change the printer port
setting from EPP or ECP to SPP or standard or Bi-Di. Win XP will then
attempt to install a new port driver for the slower setting, let it
do this. then restart your system again.

Older model HP laser printers are not able to cope with the
accellerated data rate of enhanced ports together with the more
efficient drivers in an operating system like XP, while still pushed
with win98 they just about manage with that system. When you add XP's
drivers you begin to get garbage.

It's also possible that the print-spooler file is corrupt, this may
require completely removing the driver and then carefully
reinstalling it, however I'd try changing the port setting first.
