HP 5180 - Non-stop Problems!

Curious if anyone else is having as many problems with the HP5180 as I
am.

First I have NEVER been able to get the software to install on my
system. I have contacted support on the phone and by email so many
times I have lost count and they still can not tell me a solution to
the problem. The problem is the install software can not locate the
printer on the network. There is no firewall software nor hardware
active. I even tried with the printer direct connected to the
computer. pings ok but will not install. And I can print with a
standard tcp/ip port set up and I can scan with the embeded web
server, but no HP software.

Now the thing complains about non-existent paper jams between EVERY
print task! I have tried 3 different brands of paper and same results.
There is no jam but the printer will report it everytime the printer
sits for more that 2-minutes between print jobs. Several times it will
not clear no matter what I do - the only option is to pull the power
cord because the power button will not work either.

I have had HP printers for over 18yrs (my old tank IIIp still works
great, slow but great), but this is the first one to really cause me
fits and support is unable to help.

Whew! Just had to vent after trying to print taxes .....

Hi!

Photosmart C5180?

I've had no problems or complaints with mine. Several Macs and PCs print to
and scan from it. Perhaps you should return it for another. The first one I
bought was stuck in "manufacturing mode". The second one continues to work
well.

No problems with mine. Installation went smooth - installed software
on 2 computers, 1 wired connection, one wireless. Plugged the printer
into the network. Turned off firewall as instructed, software found
the printer right away in both cases.

Only had one problem with mine in the 6 months I've owned it, the
power brick went bad after about 3 months. 10 minute online chat with
service, 3 days for shipping, and I had a new one under warranty.

Sounds like you got a bad one, try to get it replaced.

After two weeks, I started having problems. I can't even remember what was going on, but knew it had to do with new software. I finally uninstalled the software. I thought it might have interfered with the older printer software I had installed, so I also made sure I removed that. Then I re-installed, and haven't had any other problems. Good luck!
