I have a NEC DVD writer drive (DVD-RW/DVD+RW)and XP Pro.
I want to copy files to a DVD-RW disc. How do I do this
with XP? The functionality to do this does not seem in XP.

XP can write to standard CD-R/RW drives but not to DVD. You will need to get
a third party program for this ability.

Thankyou for the reply. I understand.

My question then. Why does XP not provide DVD data
writing capability built-in?

Select the files and right-click into the selection > Send To > Your
DVD RW drive should be listed here, select it. The files will be
copied to a cache folder now and also an icon appears on the Taskbar.
When you click the icon, a new Explorer window opens with the copied
files. Select File > Write these files...

XP was released two years ago. At that time the standards for burning DVDs
were very much undecided so the capability to do this was not included in
XPs disk burning applet.

It's not a good idea to post your real email address in any newsgroup.
Change a part of the address and then give instructions in a tag line to
change it back to the actual address.
