How to wait for menu to close?

I have a standard MainMenu with standard MenuItems.

1 MenuItem launches a process in the Click Event outside of VB.NET.
When this process starts, the menu has not finished closing and
bits/chunks of menu are still displayed. Is there a way to tell when
the menu is finished all of it's processing?
