What you have is a VCD. You should be able to drag the avseq01.dat file
onto Media Player Classic. VLC also can play VCDs.

When you say drag into media player, what do you mean and how do you do it.
In fact when I RIGHT click there is no function to say "open with" media
player. When I use the 'open' and choose media player, it says cannot open
the file. Not tried using Videolan if I can help it. MP10 installed in my
xp....thanks

I meant Media Player Classic, which you have to download. You can just drag
the file onto the program, and it will play, if I remember correctly. VLC
can certainly play VCDs.
