how to view an added sata drive without booting from it

I need to work on a serial drive from another computer in
my system. When I plug it in (sata drive), my computer won't
start because it is seeing the new drive as the OS drive. It does
have an OS on it but it is the wrong drive. I don't want to boot
from that drive.

How do I control this???
