How to use web server disk space for backup?

Sorry if this is a bit OT for this group, but I've tried in a couple of
other ng's to to avail.

A client of mine has an off-site webserver provided by a hosting company.
They alot him tons more disk space than he would ever use for his website.
He wants to set up scheduled backups of some important data, the nature of
which doesn't require significant security. We will set him up an external
hard drive for one on-site solution. For off-site, however, he asked me if
he could use his web server's disk space as a network drive and direct
another scheduled backup there. I could not answer his question.

Can this be done? Currently, he accesses the space only via FTP uploads.

thank you for any ideas.

I'm sure it could be scripted with one of the various FTP clients that
allows scheduling. However double check the TOS/AUP of the hosts as many do
not allow you to use their service as a file hosting repository.
