How to use titles in Power Point that won't appear on slide but will appear
on the outline list at left.

If you have many slides, dragging off the placeholders manually maybe tedious.
One way is to make use of custom animation.
Click View > Master > Slide Master.
Click Slide Show > Custom Animation.
Click on the title placeholder.
Click Add Effect > Exit > Disappear.
Set the Start to After Previous.
Close Master View.
Now, even though the titles appear on the slides, they will not be shown in
slide show.

If the slides are all well-behaved, dragging the title placeholder off the slide
in the Slide Master and Title Master should get the job done, though.

Ever the simpleminded:

Not nearly as quick and direct as dragging the title off the slide, but it
works: cover the title with a text-free textbox filled only with the
background color of the slide itself.
