how to use the fill on excel

Ok what I'm trying to do is count from 0000 to 9999 on
an excel spread sheet the way I've been typing in is by
using #0000 - #9999 however this is taking wextremely long
time I was told to you use " Fill" hightlight the
numbers and then highlight the area to fill in however the
way Everytime I do this, It does fill it in but it does
not count the numbers it just fills in with the same
number
ie
cell a1 has #0000 in it
cell a2 has #0002 in it

I hightlight these and drag down but it fills in with all
#0000 instead of counting #0001, #0002 #0003

how do I do this properly

or is there another way to count on excel from #0000 -
#9999

thanks Kim

Hi Kim

1. insert #0001 in the first row and #0002 in the second row.
2. Highligh both cells
3. Go to the lower right corner of the second cell. The cursor will
change to a cross
4. Click the left mouse button and move the cursor down until all
required rows are filled

Double-click the fill handle in a column (selection includes the formula
to be copied). XL then automatically copies all cells below with
information in cells immediately to the left. Thus, one does not have to
find the last cell in a i.e. 50,000
record file.
