How to use "OR"

I want to insert a formula in C1: the scenerio is, there is date (6/25/2008)
in cell A1 and special character (#) in cell B1. I want to say if A1 or B1
is equal to #, then insert value zero in cell C1. How would I write the
formula?

Let's clear something up first. You say A1 has a date in it, but you want to
check A1 for containing the # character... why? I am asking because if you
have a date in a cell, but the cell is not wide enough to display the date,
Excel will display a string of # characters instead. Are you asking this
question because of this situation? If so, no formula will see the #
characters in the cell... you would need a VB solution to do that. Also,
what is in B1... just the # character or could there other text along with
that character? Or does B1 also have a date and the column is too narrow to
display it?

Thanks Gary's student. It worked. There was just a date in Cell A1 and a
single value "#" in Cell B1. The # sign was NOT due to cell width.
