Well, if it has a plug at the end like headphones then just plug it into the
microphone jack.
Try double-clicking the speaker icon in your taskbar and see if "Mic" has
the Mute checkbox checked. Hope that helps ^^

You don't mention what you want to DO with the microphone (voice mail, voice
chat, voice recording, etc.), but if you just want to experiment with it to
make sure it works:

Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder

I actually got a speech recognition software, i just want to record my
voice.
I've checked that micphone is not mute.
There's no topic for setting up a microphone... perhaps because i am using
windows 2000, is that the case? Do i need to install a particular driver to
make it work?

Actually, when i hit the volume button in the Sounds and Multimedia in
Control Panel, I got the following error message:-
There is a problem with your sound hardware. You may install mixer devices
from the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard in the control panel.

What's that mean? What is a mixer device?

You need to re-install the software for your soundcard, the mixer is
part of that. What type of soundcard have you got?

This is a Windows XP newsgroup, you really should be asking in
microsoft.public.win2000.general for best results.
