How to use character entities in xml

How can I use HTML character entities in my xml file?
it has reference of Schema file(.xsd) which has fixed structure defined by
our client.
so without disturbing to schema, I want to use character entities to allow
special character entries like chemical formulae using greek letters,
superscript/subscript values, integral symbol, etc.
