How to use all of floppy disc space

I have been saving text docs. to floppy instead of printing them out. My question i, why can't I seem to be able to fill up the entire disc. I am only able to use about half of it and then get a window saying that the directory is full. Can I save only so many items regardless of their size? Would it help if I put them into folders? Thanks for any help.....Sean

Yes, there is a limitation with regard to the number of files on a disk.

Yes and no -- there is a limit to the number of files you can put in the
ROOT [e.g. A:\ ) of a floppy disk.

The solution is simple: Create a folder (or several folders) on the floppy
and put your files in the folder. Now you only have one file (the
folder(s)) in the root of A:\

Hope this helps,

Keep in mind that floppies are notoriously unstable, and the newer ones seem
more fragile than the older ones used to be. I hope these aren't the only
copies you have of these files if they're important to you.

Also keep in mind that if you store many small(er) files on the disk, there
will be a bit of unused (slack) space at the end of each file, where it
doesn't completely fill a disk sector. Thus, your total bytes stored will
never equal the capacity of the disk.

Is this with any floppy or just a single floppy. If it is a single floppy,
throw it out and get a new one. This will happen to floppies over time and
is also dependent on how they are stored.
