How to unformat....

I have a family member's hard drive that was accidentally formatted
during an XP installation in which there were multiple HD's in the
computer. The drive has nothing on it, and through a few demos of
recovery software, I can see that most if not all of the data is there,
and since no files (including system files) were put onto the drive
since the format, I would think I should be able to fully recover them.
Is there any way to unformat the drive, or perhaps recover the
formatted partition? Are there any free utilities out there that will
do either with an NTFS drive?

So why not use the recovery software?

Not free one that I am aware.

Programmers have to eat, pay rent, etc. just like anyone else and if
they can't get paid for their programming work where does the money
come from?

There are a number of unformat utilities that will work with NTFS
drives and which cost about $50US or so. It is up to you and the
family member to decide if the value of recovering the information is
worth the cost.

You can use data recovery software, such as DataRecoveryWizard (
http://www.easeus.com) to recover formatted drive.
