Small dots appear between words in e-mail messages as I type. They are not
visible to the receiver. How do I turn them off as I'm typing

You're using Word as your editor. Click Tools>Options and on the View tab,
disable the formatting marks you don't want to see.

Those are space marks. To hide them, in the message window when using Word
as your editor go to View-->Toolbars and click Standard toolbar. Then click
the show/hide button (looks like a paragraph mark) to turn off the space
marks. You can then close the Standard toolbar by View-->Toolbars and click
Standard toolbar.

Click on the [¶] button (if it is visible), or press Ctrl+Shift+8
