How To Turn Off Simplified File Sharing?

H

Hi Ho Silver

I see in several places where I should be able to turn off "Simplified File
Sharing" by unchecking a box in Folder Options/View.

I don't see a box for "Simplified File Sharing" in Folder Options. I am
using Windows XP Home Edition. I also see this admonition:

"Note that you'll need to have your drive formatted with NTFS in order to
limit permissions. FAT32 is an unsecured file system for any operating
system"

How do I find out whether I have NTFS or FAT32? Any advice appreciated.

Right Click the Drive letter in Explorer/My Computer, then Left click
Properties. The details box will show the file system in use.

If you are getting that message - you have FAT32 -
you have no securities to set with FAT32 - it is natively
insecure.

To limit permissions in XP Home, you need to log on in Safe Mode. You
cannot turn off simple file sharing in XP Home.

To find out if your drive is NTFS, right click on the drive in Explorer
and select Properties. On the general tab it will show the file system.
