How To Troubleshoot and Restart Services

K

Kevin Perry

I'm new to the Newgroup and not sure if this problem
belongs under this heading.

My boss did major Windows Update of his Windows 2000 Prof.
and now the "DHCP Client" and TCP/IP Netbios Helper
service will not start during start up.

I also get error message 1068 in the Event log.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello Kevin,

Step 1. Open up the registry and save a backup copy of the registry.

Step 2. Migrate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\DHCP - On the right side
panel of the window look for "DependOnService" when you find that look at
the data of the entry. Make sure the data value says "Tcpip Afd NetBT".
Must be spelled exactly the same.

Note: After removing a firewall from the system sometimes they tend to
leave entries in the DHCP.

Step 3. Restart the system after you have modified the key to its original
entry

Step 4. Check to see if the DHCP Client service started

I checked and "tcp/ip netbios helper" does not have any dependencies.

Thank You.

Diana.
