how to temporarily cat-proof keyboard?

Is there a built-in or external utility to temporary disable the keyboard
until a special sequence is clicked or entered?

I am afraid my cat may accidentally step on some key that interrupts a long
process I left running (e.g. burning a DVD).

I still want to be able to see the screen, so a screen saver with password
doesn't work in this case.

I know, covering the keyboard would work too, but I don't have anything
handy.

Why is the cat anywhere near the computer?

Do you know what the cat hairs, etc are doing to the inside of your system
as the cat wanders around the area and sheds? You are asking for trouble by
having the animal anywhere in the room.

Turn the keyboard upside-down.

That is an official program?? I know they have programs out there to keep
cats entertained by certian type of visual display on the screen.

Hi

They also like to sleep on laptop keyboards while the laptop is on, they
like the warmth.

There used to be cat proof programs for Dos. Though it's been years since
I've heard of one. Jerry doesn't understand cats. They do what they want. A
they like sleeping on keyboards.

There sofware that detects a cats spelling (very poor spellers) and discards
it plus there are locks.

And cat lies down on keyboard and manages to press all the
keys at once. No that won't do.

A better solution is to use a wireless keyboard that you can
put away somewhere until you need it.

Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click "Lock Computer". Nothing can be done until
you again hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and type in your password.

I don't see an option to lock the computer on the task
manager, am I missing something?

I'm not in a domain.
To lock a computer in a domain environment

1.. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
2.. Click Lock Computer.
Windows displays the Computer Locked dialog box. Your
system is now locked, preventing everyone except you or a
system administrator from unlocking your system and viewing
any open files or programs.

Note

a.. To unlock your computer, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, type
your password, and then click OK.

Windows key +L will lock the computer. Tried and checked on
my XP Pro, not on a domain.

There are keyboards with a flip-down lid that covers the keys.
