How to stop read receipt sends

I am having problems w/ read receipts. I had someone ask me to respond to a read receipt, so I said yes. Then I got an error stating that it could not be sent. It now is trying to continuously send the read receipt to this individual, and will not stop, I keep getting the error message. Since the read receipts do not come out of the inbox, i dont know how to delete this message, or keep it from continuously trying to send. How do I get to this process to kill it? I want Outlook to stop attempting to send.

did you check to see if it is in your outbox. Just delete it from there.

Also if you hit your send/recieve key it will attempt to send it. You can
delete it from there.

Are read reciepts really visible in the outbox before they are sent?
