How to stop popup of messages during the chatting

Hi,

I am facing a peculier problem, while working in office some times i do
chattig with my friends, but during the conversation if any body comes
to my desk, i used to stop sending reply to that person. But that
region is other persons don't know he used to bang messages
continuously, and all the messeges are pop up. How to avoid the pop
messeges during the chatting.

Don't chat at the office (is it allowed?) or close the chat program when you
are not using it.
