I have been using the following shortcut to start my calendar for a few years:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /select
outlook:calendar

...my calendar has always started in the week view which is exactlfy what I
like. All of a sudden it starts in some kind of a 'list view'. My
appointments appear much like a to-do list. I have to click around to get it
back to the week view. How can I teach Outlook to start in the 5 day view
again?

PS: It does not matter how I launch the calendar now, it always starts in
the "list" view.

Reset your view on your Calendar and make sure you also close Outlook in
that view.

Thank you for your prompt and thoughtful response. I have tried several times
to close out of Outlook while in the view I prefer, however every time I
reopen Outlook it goes back to the 'list' view. I even tried deleting the
*.ost file and letting Outlook rebuild the database. Nothing seems to work. I
think I have a corrupt registry.

That has nothing to do with your issue as views are totally unrelated to the
registry.
View-> Arrange By-> Custom...-> Reset Current View

The view that I cannot escape is actually the view used for searching the
calendar. Something appears to be 'stuck' or corrupt.

Well, it kept starting on Active Appointments. I changed the view to what I
like and logged out a few times. It seems OK now. I thank you for your
patience and comments.
