How to sort without including column headings in sort

I can't find the answer either online or in Excel help probably because I'm
not using correct terms. The first row contains column titles, and when I
sort the columns these titles get sorted to. Can I somehow anchor or
designate the text in these cells to remain fixed?

Don't know what version of Excel you are using but in Excel 2000 when you
select your columns and then click Data - Sort, the Sort dialog box has a
radio button at the bottom to say whether your columns have a header row or
not.

Try formatting the headers differently, like Bold. Excel will probably
recognize them then as headers
