how to setup lexmark x7170 printer

I've got a pc and a lexmark x7170 printer but i'm not sure how to
connect the phone lines. The phone line comes from the wall socket and
goes to the lexmark. Then there is another line that goes from the
lexmark to the modem socket. Is this the right way 'round? It's just
that I'm having problems with faxing directly from the pc, but I can
recieve faxes on the lexmark.

Hi.

My Printer an Epson 1290 does not have any kind of phone socket.

I can receive and send faxes from my Win XP, and even could when it was Win
98, no problem. The phone line goes straight to the Modem socket.
