how to set up windows xp pro as a server?

Has anyone located a good FAQ on this? I'm not using "simple" mode. I
want to specify users and/or groups that can log in to my Windows XP
computer. I don't want guest or anonymous accounts.

I created an account in the Remote Desktop User group. I gave it a
password. I can log in with that account on the XP computer. I turned
authentication on in the network properties tab.

When I attempt to log in to my XP computer from a remote Win98 box, I
now get a login prompt as I expected. I'm prompted to log into
//computer/IPC$.

But alas, the password does not work. I do have a folder shared with
permissions given to the user that is logging in.

Thx.

Steve Winograd posted this on the network list and I recommend it:

I would make one addition -- there is a parameter under "local policies"
where you might need to include a group or user that will be
allowed to access via the network.

Programs>Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy > Security Settings
Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Access this Computer from
the Internet
