Hello,

I have Outlook 2003 on a Vista business machine. I would like to be able to
set up Outlook Web Access so that I can view my Outlook remotely. How do I
do this?

Hi Ric,

Outlook is not enough, you must have Exchange Server to get the Outlook Web
Access funtion.

How to get a Web Access account if you have Exchange? I would ask your
administrator.

Without Exchange = No Outlook Web Access

Without Exchange = No Outlook Web Access

But I can't install Exchange on a Vista computer.

Seems to me fairly astonishing that it is not possible to access Outlook
data remotely!

can you access your documents remotely? can you access your pictures
remotely? can you access anything on your computer remotely? Unless you can
store it all on the email server, you need a point-to-point thing like
GoToMyPC or PCAnywhere.

If you can do it with Exchange then you can do it with vista. My computer is
permanently connected to internet so why can't it be done?

Huh?

Exchange == Mail Server.
Vista == Operating System.

Two completely, totally, absolutely different types of software.

And, lets talk about Outlook Web Access for a moment. It is a mail client,
just the same as Outlook. Outlook isn't a mail server. It isn't something
you can use a client to connect to. It doesn't serve data for other
applications. Heck, Outlook Web Access is even poorly named. It isn't Web
Access *into* Outlook. It is Web Access into *Exchange*. It simply is
Outlook-like in terms of design and functionality. It'd probably be better
named as either Exchange Web Access or Outlook: Web Edition for Exchange.

Well, like dlw said, it could be done.

You could use Go2MyPC or PCAnywhere and directly control your desktop (or
heck, simply use Remote Desktop). This requires your computer actually be
turned on and you know your IP address (or you use a DDNS service).

Or

You could open up network sharing on your lan to the Internet (probably a
really bad idea) and make sure that Outlook is shut down (since PSTs are
exclusively locked open when Outlook is running) and set up Outlook on your
'local' machine to connect to the shared PST. This would be a *last*
resort.

Or

If all you want access to is your Inbox make sure Outlook is configure to
not delete the mail on the server and just use web access into your ISP's
email server.
