How to set up Outlook 2007 to NOT auto-send/receive on starting

Is there any way to change Outlook 2007's start-up defaults to that it does
not perform an automatic send/receive when it is started?

hi, Jan, yes you can stop automatic send/receive when you start Outllook by
performing below steps.
1.Open Outlook 2007.
2. Click on "Tools" tab.
3. Then, select "Options".
4. Then Options dialog box opens up, there you need to click on "Mails
Setup" tab.
5. Then, you need to uncheck the box "Send immediately when connected".
Click "Apply", then, click "Ok".

Hope this solution helps you.

Ctrl+Alt+S to open the send and receive properties - disable check every xx
min. you can also control individual accounts by making new groups or
editing acct settings - select the group, click edit.

5. Then, you need to uncheck the box "Send immediately when connected".
Click "Apply", then, click "Ok".

That has nothing to do with performing a send/receive, at startup or at any
other time.

So, what has?

The "Schedule an automatic send/receive every" option in the Send/Receive
Groups dialogue (press Alt-Ctrl-S while viewing a mail folder).

However, unless I'm missing something, that doesn't answer the request. What
we want is automatic send/receive every x minutes, but do NOT do an initial
send/recv when Outlook starts. I know Outlook Express has that option. Is it
possible in Outlook?

Nope, not possible. The send/receive interval setting mandates an initial
send/receive to start the timer.

Thank you. Perhaps the documentation writers can make that specific when
they describe the "Schedule an automatic send/receive every" option. Or,
better, add an option to Outlook to allow disabling an initial send/receive.

If you want that to happen, contact Microsoft and tell them.

Without an initial send/receive, how do you propose Outlook figure the
interval to the next send/receive?

So Microsoft staff don't read these messages and take note of what people
are saying?

Presumably from when Outlook starts. I've not timed it, but I think that's
how Outlook Express does it. It has "Check for messages every x minutues" and
also has a checkbox "Send and receive messages at startup". So, on startup,
there is no send/receive, but x minutes later there is. That means if I
normally want automatic send/recv, but for some reason I want to start the
e-mail but not do a send/recv that gives me time to do what I want and then
shut down the software. In fact, that's how I have OE set: auto send/recv
every x minutes, but not on startup.

Outlook and Outlook Express aren't related and weren't written by the same
programming group. What one does has no bearing on the behavior of the
other. The fact is that Outlook's send/receive interval requires a
send/receive at startup. Sorry.

For some reason, mine (Outlook 2007) does not send/recveive on startup,
rather it does so at 15 minute intervals. Originaly is did s/r with every
start, but evidently I have changed a parm somewhere that keeps it from doing
so now. I do have a s/r every 15 min. option set.

There is no separate control for send/receive at startup. If you have
"Schedule an automatic send/receive every..." enabled, that controls
performing a send/receive at startup as well.

I will say one thing, though. While Outlook will perform the send/receive
at startup, I've seen it skip some accounts (even with only a single
send/receive group) during that initial send/receive.
