How to set my website to fuction properly in all browsers

Hello ladies & gentlemen,
How do i set my website to fuction properly in all browsers, i'm using
frontpage 2003, THANKS.
 
First thing to do is to look through many, many previous posts about this
same idea and question.

After using the web and creating my own website since January this year, I
think this question is similar to "How long is a piece of string?"

I don't mean to be flippant beacuse I have faced the same problem myself and
read posts on this topic every day. I wish there were a definitive answer.
Some experts get close to it.

One answer has been test for a function/element/piece of syntax (not sure of
the correct word) before using it
e.g. if(document.getElementById) document.getElementById.........
This becomes a bit tedious so it would be nice to know which ones are worth
testing for
