How to Set "as text" for insert file default?

Is there a way to set "as text" as the insert file default. I see how
to set the default actuall of insert picture. For picture, behind text is
the best flow default. I think to be able to double click on the file and
it becomes inserted as text would be the better action for inserting files.
However, when you insert a text file, by default it beomes an attachment.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any suggestions.

Hi L.,

Well, let's start with the version of Word you're using? And are you using it
as an Email editor, by any chance? Because when I use Insert/File in Word as
Word (not as an Email editor) it certainly does NOT default to inserting as
an attachment...

Cindy. Thanks for the information (and the question for clarity).

I'm using Microsoft Office 2003. I'm using the Microsoft Outlook's
defaults. It uses Word (or is it called Word Mail) for it's editor. I
thought the behavior I was getting was from Microsoft Word, since it seemed
that all the other controls were there. However, after reading your email I
find that you're right. MS Word does insert the file as text by default.

I have a file that I insert into many of my emails (a few different
files). It's kind of cumbersome to have to look for the drop down to select
as text. I always want it as text. Some times I make a mistake and double
click on it. Then I have to go back and fix it.

It would be extremely convenience if I could make the "word.mail"
application default to inserting the text file as text.

Thanks in advance for letting me know if it's possible or not. If it's
not possible to set this default, I can stop looking for it.

I don't think it's possible to change this default, but if this is always the
same file...

Why not record a macro, put it on a toolbar button, and use that whenever you
want to insert it as text?

Cindy. Thanks for the feedback. Now I can stop trying to find
something that's not there.

I'm not good with MS Macros. Will visit the Macro Forums to get more
insight. It's not always the same file. If it were simple to setup a Macro
that would actually do this with a double clicked file, this would be cool.
I'm going to experiment with it and will report what I find.

Thanks again.
