how to save existing emails with attachements to external drive

I'm looking to save existing Outlook folders (inbox, sent & archeive files)
to an external drive. These emails either have or don't have attachements I
would also like to save to teh external drive. I've tried exporting the
files to the desktop but it does nothing but freeze up the system when
opening. Tried to just save to external drive or CD-Rom but only the emails
come out one after another with no sorting capabilty and no attahcements to
open. I need to get this done ASAP! Need some help......thanks!
 
The best solution for what you seek is to create a PST file on the drive
(File | Data File Management). Close Outlook before disconnecting the drive
to ensure Outlook releases its lock on the PST. When you want to open the
PST in Outlook just do File | Open -> Outlook Data File.
