hi. i have a jvc web cam (PC camera 168) the drivers of which didnt work
with vista. so once i got connected to the internet from vista i searched
for the drivers online directly from the device manager and it installed.
the problem is...

1. how to test the camera? it doesnot appear in scanners and cameras in
control panel

2. how do i save these drivers so that next time i have to install vista
again i can install it while still offline. (the searching took a long time)

the device is listed as USB PC Camera (SN9C120) in device manager

When you download your Drivers, save them to a folder (called drivers?) in
documents, or save to desktop.

Don't run or open them from the website.

Double-click and install them from where you saved them, and you still have
the original Driver to burn to a CD.

well i would do that had i downloaded the drivers from my browser. but this
one i downloaded using device manager. let me tell u how i did it.

right click on unknown device>update driver>search automatically.
and windows did the rest. i was not given any option to save the drivers.

Using Device Manager is not the best way to update drivers.
The search will get what it thinks is the right driver!
And you can't save them!

If you have an ATI or Nvidia graphics card, go to the respective
manufacturers website and get the new one.

Check in Device Manager to see if everything is OK first; if it isn't go to
website.

You use DM for unknown devices, but by process of elimination, you can work
out what you hardware you have just installed on your computer.

Just for this exercise, let's say you installed an Aopen sound card.
It might show up in DM as unknown device; but YOU know what it is, and you
can go to Aopen's website and download and save the driver as I suggested.

Happy New Year.
