how to save a streaming RealVideo file

on the site is only something called a "metafile" *.ram
i want to save this using particular stream (in example a
128kb), to a file on disk,
but there's virtually no such program, i don't need any
transconing, only simple put this data on disk in a form
than can be played with realmedia codec's installed on my
system

any solutions ?

I assume you've tried right clicking on the file and selecting: "Save
Target As...", right?

That will only fetch the .ram file, which is a tiny (typically <100
bytes) text file containing the URL to the actual audio file. This
cannot be downloaded by a browser using the http protocol, but needs
an application that can handle the rtsp or pnm protocols. I know of
two such but neither is freeware.

Saving rtsp (Real) streams is possible with the excellent downloader Net
Transport 1.87.

I've seen postings about people wanting to save streaming video, apparently
a VCR app exists in freeware to do just that. If it's audio, I have done
this before, but can't remember exactly how, you could record system audio
to a .wav file using a sound recorder and selecting the record input to
your system. Then use a sound editor to clip out the stuff you want, and an
encoder to make it whatever format is best for you.

yes but real files are highly compressed, and if you do the
compression again the effect will be awful
