how to restore email and contact from exchange server

Hi,
My computer crashed recently. I have to install OS and install MS Office again. I would like to know how can I down load all email from my server to new Outlook program? Because there is no old mails on my inbox now neither the contacts. I have not backed up these folders. I know that old mail still be on the server. How do I put it into my new Outlook.? Thank you very much

All your mail, contacts, tasks, etc. are held on the Exchange server. When
you create your Outlook profile and connect to the server it should all be
there. Have you created your Outlook profile and had the servername and
mailbox name resolve?

Will it automatically download all mails there or just new mails. How do I
