How to repair corrupted database

My computer happend to shutdown due to power failure.
On starting again , I'm not able to open the database.
On trying to repair it , i'm getting the message "If you are currently
trying to repair this corruption then you will need to recreate this
file or restore it from a previous back up."
I do have a back up but I'd done awful lot of work on the presently
corrupted database.
Is there anyway I can salvage the corrupted db?
