?How to recover .mbx, .idx, & .dbx files & address book?

Please Help! I just got a new 'puter & didn't know I was supposed to export
my old Outlook Express e-mail folders. I just saved them on a cd & they have
extensions: .mbx, .idx, & .dbx. The files that were in my old address book
folder have extensions: .~ & .wa~; and one file says "Address Book File". I
have XP & Outlook now.

Copy all the files into a new folder on your new PC. Remove the "Read-Only"
attribute. Then in OE, import the files. Then export the mail to Outlook
once you have imported into OE. Do the same with the addressbook.

..mbx files are from Outlook Express 4. .dbx files are for Outlook Express 5
and 6.

Thanks for your help Gordon! But what if I don't have Outlook Express
anymore? And how do I remove the "read only" attribute? I have about 35
files - is there an easy way to remove this attribute for all of them or do I
have to do the routine for each of them? ~Naomi >^..^<

OE is bundled with IE - if you have XP then you certainly have Outlook
Express. Go to Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs and click on the Add/Remove
Windows Components on the LH bar. Check that OE is checked!

Right click on each, choose "properties" and at the bottom, uncheck "Read
Only"

You can remove the read-only attribute on all of them at once, if they're in
the same folder. Let's assume they're in a folder called C:\DBX Files.
Open a command line prompt window (Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command
Prompt) and enter the following:

cd \DBX Files
attrib -r *.*
