I cannot find out how to subscribe and read newsgroups in Outlook 2003.

Outlook doesn't have (to my knowledge anyway) an NNTP viewer.. you have to
use Outlook Express as your default newsgroup reader

Hmmm. Once I got a reader looking VERY much like Outlook Express, but which
said Outlook newsreader and with slightly different colours. But now I
cannot find it anymore...

It was definitely Outlook Express, but run with the /outnews switch.

That's OE in "news only" mode, which is what Outlook has always used.
To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Go to the Internet address below:
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp? fr=0&sa=gn&lng=eng

Do the following when you get to this page:

1. From the Select a Microsoft Product list, choose - All Microsoft
Products-.

2. From the Search For list, enter document number 171190.

3. Under Search Type, put a dot in front of Article ID.

4. To locate the document, click the green button to the left of Go.

5. To view the document, click the document title which appears under
Search Results.

Or, use any of the other NNTP clients. Here's a list of them:

Personally, I like SuperGravity, found here:
