how to paste data from word with line breaks (^l) to excel

whenever pasting a table from word to excel with cells
containig line breaks, excel unmerges those having ^l into
separate cells of line instead of seeing all those line
breaks as "hard" carriage returns like ALT+ENTER. Any
advice for keeping those line breaks in one cell so that
no alignment problem will rise?
