How to optimize w2k pro as a music server?

I trying to use a W2k Pro computer (Celeron 2.2GHz, 512MB RAM, lotsa disc, built-in 11-meg WLAN) as my music/media server. There would only be one client usually, so the limit of ten makes no difference. Even though the wlan connections of the server and the client work fine, I can't get a 1000kbps compressed flac audio stream to work without hickups. I use folder sharing on the server and play the files with Winamp (play folder -> local network etc.)

I realize the problem is probably with the wlan connection(s) but I'd like to know how I could tweak or trick the server to work more smoothly. Any ideas?

you'll have to remember that file server settings were
never really meant for streaming =] since you're using
winamp - how about using shoutcast to do the streaming for
you and use a remote desktop client to change the
playlist - even though you have lots of drive space the
cache on the drive itself is purging along while
streaming - and if you haven't forced the hardware at it's
top speed (i.e. 11-meg only) you'll get fluctuations - and
since MOST wlans are sitting on the default channel, most
likely you're getting interference from "noise" - try
exploring that route - wireless is uncharted territory for
MOST things that were basically in stone on wired networks
