How to network share a DVD-ROM on another computer.

Ray

I posted this a while back, but have not gotten a
response.
------------------------------------------------------

I have 3 computers networked using Windows XP Home
Edition through a Router/Switch. They can all can share
files and a printer. I have been trying to get them to
share a DVD-ROM off of one of them, but to no success.
-------------------------------------------------
These are the errors that I get:
-------------------------------------------------
The network folder specified is currently mapped using a
different user name and password.

To connect using a different user name and password,
first disconnect any existing mappings to this network
share.

(CLICK OK....)

The mapped network drive could not be created because the
following error has occurred:

Multiple connections to a server of shared resource by
the same user, using more than one user name, are not
allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the
server or shared resource and try again.

--------------------------------------------------------
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
--------------------------------------------------------
---I get these errors when I try to log on as a different
user. I get the following errors when I just try to map
the drive or just double click the drive in My Network
Places:
---------------------------------------------------------
(THIS IS WITH NO DISC IN DRIVE)
\\Computer Name\Shared Drive Name is not accessible. You
might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions.

The device is not ready.

(THIS IS WITH A DISC IN THE DRIVE)
E:\is not accessible.

Not enough server storage is available to process this
command.

---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

although I have never tried it, I believe (from various
similar postings in the past) that what you are trying to
do is not possible. Whilst you can share the
files/folders that relate to the cd/dvd, you cannot read
or write to the disk from any machine other than the one
in which the drive is installed.

sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, and I'm sure
if anyone has found a way to do it they will let us all
know
